A Day for the KING.

In Amsterdam there is a special day called Kings day. it celebrates the birthday of King Willem-Alexander, the current king of the Netherlands. It really is a big day, people from across come to celebrate, it is the biggest party of the year in the Netherlands. We purchased special orange T-shirts so we could blend in with the crowds, I’m sure no one suspected we were tourists.

People come from all around, the partying starts the night before and in the morning everyone heads for the plazza’s, squares and, of course, the cannels. It all looks quite unsafe, but what do I know!
The cannels come alive, people are coming from all directions.
The party is in full swing and music is playing, small, orange explosions are everywhere and laughter and sounds of joy are everywhere.
And they just keep coming!
A look into one of the hundreds of boats on the water. We are impressed with the balancing abilities of the Netherland youth.

Yes, it was Kings day, and there was no cynicism or crude political remarks. We were able to penetrate the world of the Dutch celebration all thanks to our clever orange T-shirt caper. We are working on the tell all expose (BooK) now.
