Step Back, Step Ahead

Okay, so these Autumn days are moist, and it gets dark so early.  I was just sitting outside in the Sun enjoying a cool beverage and suddenly it is almost December.  I feel like I have no time once again to do anything, but the truth is that I have lots of time, I just don’t seem to organize it well.

I am working on smaller pictures and taking my drawing less seriously of late, I was getting kind of stuck and frustrated and wasn’t having fun, but now I am.  I had drawn a larger picture and I kind of muffed it up and I am surprised at how much it frustrated me.  I took a few steps both backwards and forwards.

My not so good frustration!

Steps Backwards – I am drawing smaller, easier to manage drawings with less detail. And the smaller size lets me get away with looser painting.  This is what I wanted to do, not sure why I complicated things?

This is what I wanted to do, kind of a scrap Book
And this is more of a journal exercise, nothing fancy

Steps Forwards: I am using better paper, I have not been using my cheap drawing paper, I have full watercolour paper.  My book of paper cost 23$ at Michaels and it works beautifully.

Now I am ready to paint

Lesson Learned:  Use some good tools until you get creative/good enough to be successful with the not so good tools.  It takes time!
